This is the Fort Orange District website for district
volunteers, parents and scouts. This site is devoted to
providing current district and council news, information
on upcoming scouting events, training calendars and links
to other scouting sites. This is also a forum for
leaders, volunteers and parents to discuss scouting
topics and look for information or assistance.
Lets Get the Word Out!
Effective June 1,
2010:
- Youth Protection Training is
required
for all registered leaders!
- New leaders must complete Youth Protection
Training
before submitting their application for registration, and MUST submit a copy of their certificate of
completion at the time of registration.
- Youth Protection Training is only valid for
two years.
If a volunteer's Youth Protection Training record is not current at the
time of recharter, the volunteer will
not be reregistered.
As of Sept 1st, 2010, only 25% of the 759 registered Pack and Troop Leaders in Fort Orange
have a current YP record in their training record!
This means that on January 1st, 2011, potentially 570 pack and troop leaders will be removed from their unit charters and will not be a registered scouter.
If you do not have a current youth protection certificate (less than 2 years old) in your possession, please consider completing or re-taking the youth protection training as soon as possible. In addition to the online training, the district training staffs are looking at providing YP sessions locally this fall.
Effective December 2011, position specific training will become
mandatory for all adult leaders!
So what does this mean for you? Well, it means
that if you have not completed the required training for
your position, you will NOT be allowed to re-register with your unit
until you complete your training. This could
be particularly critical if you happen to hold one of the
required positions for chartering. Effective with the 2012 charter
year, new leaders joining your unit will have 12 months
to complete their training in order to remain on your
charter.
Training is
position specific,
in other words, if you have changed primary positions
since your last training, you may no longer be considered
"trained". To see what training is
required for your position, see the
training page of
this website for the current positions and required
training. If you have any questions on your
current status, contact your
district training team or the
council office for information.
Please Note, effective January 1, 2010, some of the Boy
Scout rank requirements are changing. Please check the
2010 Rank
Requirement Changes page for more information.
